Preserving the Natural Heritage of Tawas Lake

The Tawas Lake Association is a group of concerned citizens dedicated to preserving Tawas Lake as a viable, active, four-season resource. For over 65 years, our organization has served as a steadfast advocate for the lake’s health. Recently, we formally incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to expand our capacity for stewardship. Our mission is to promote the historic and non-exclusive enjoyment of the lake by balancing the needs of residents, boaters, fishermen, birders, and hunters with the preservation of a delicate ecology.
We serve as a primary representative voice before local and state government authorities, advocating for the protection of public navigation rights and the implementation of essential environmental improvements. This includes efforts to control invasive aquatic plants and restore the lake’s integrity through science-based projects. Beyond advocacy, the Association provides a resource to share and appreciate the lake’s natural beauty and value. By securing grants and fostering public education, the Association is transforming our 65-year history of local pride into professional stewardship. We are committed to ensuring that Tawas Lake remains a healthy, accessible, natural amenity for all to enjoy.
